Malbup Bird Hide
Great place to see the water birds up close in the daylight and possums in the trees at night.

Malbup Bird Hide is a fantastic bird watching site. There is a boardwalk and bird hide as well as a 1.4 kilometre walk. Wonderful scenery, highly recommended.

Malbup Bird Hide
A well located hide for bird lovers and families. I'd recommend going in the early morning and evening, as the hide is north facing, and during the mid morning to afternoon period many birds will be silhouetted against the sun. We saw a wide variety of water birds, raptors and swallows. As a final word, there are many snakes in the area so stick to the boardwalk.

Awesome bird watching spot! Only a short walk (400m return) from the carpark yet far enough away to be removed from road noise. The area leading up to the wetlands is in the midst of some regeneration work; so given some time, the young plants will grow & flesh out what currently feels a little bare. There are picnic benches at both carparks (either side of the road) & a toilet (fabled drop dunny) for those desperate - just cross the road to the north side carpark & follow the signs. There's a great information station at the start of the walks (birdhide & possum loop), & the first 100m or so before the boardwalk is through the amazing tuarts. The board walk is well built; however, a few of the bolts were starting to lift (if i had a hex driver with me they would've been easy to drive back down). The bird hide is excellent; with a long wall on the approach to hide your presence & a well-built wooden hide with numerous viewing panels & seats. It is dark when you first enter (all the viewing panels should be closed when people leave) so you may want to let your eyes adjust. It can also get quite hot & stuffy in there on warmer days, so opening a few of the panels can allow some air flow while you're in there. There's a good 30-odd viewing panels at different heights & viewing directions; some with seats &/or platform to rest & steady your camera. Walk gently & move carefully even inside the hide to avoid spooking the birds. When I clumsily opened the first panel, I spooked a white faced heron only 2m in front, but another had taken its place within minutes.I'll definitely return, hopefully with a better lens for those birds that refused to come closer!

Fantastic guided walk. It is set up for seeing night time creatures but is still very pleasant in the day. The bird hide is well constructed and gives great views of the lake and surrounding banks.

I love birds and this is heaven for me. I visited the bird hide at dusk and I saw so many birds here. I even saw many kangaroos as well. The facility is wonderful. You enter the small hut with some windows. You can open them to see the birds float around on the lake. You can sit down on the bench in the hut and enjoy seeing the birds!Be careful with mosquitoes. The sign here says mosquitoes in this area can carry Ross River Virus especially during spring and early summer.

Well hidden large wooden bird hide on long raised wooden walkway over wetlands to Malbup Creek. Many varieties of birds to be seen. Morning viewing recommended. Pink and grey Galahs were nesting in the tree just outside the hide. Great experience. Thank you C.A.L.M.

A really interesting spot to stop and catch a glimpse of lots of different birds. Just a short drive from Busselton along Layman Rd or Tuart Dve. Turn into the carpark which is close to the road. There is an information shelter near the carpark, and a few picnic tables. Then a 5 minute brisk walk through the forest will het you to the boardwalk leading to the hide itself.Once inside the hide the little peepholes give you an expansive view of innumerable types of water birds.I saw ducks, Black Swans, Australian Ibis, Shearwaters, Spoonbills and so many more.I am not a bird watcher so there were a lot more I couldn’t name for you. I only had my phone camera, but if you had a proper one you would get some fabulous shots. It was hot when I went but I cycled from town in about 30 minutes. Make sure you bring water and take your rubbish. There is a toilet over the road in a picnic area.
